The clash between two of the best bantamweights in the UFC, Cory Sandhagen and Umar Nurmagomedov, will unfortunately not take place on the scheduled date.
Umar Nurmagomdeov (16-0), currently ranked number 11 in the bantamweight division, has been forced to withdraw from the UFC Nashville main event on August 5. The undefeated Dagestani had to face the number 4 in the category, Cory Sandhagen (16-4).
The injury that made Umar Nurmagomedov withdraw from the Cory Sandhegen fight
Nurmagomedov withdrew due to a shoulder injury that occurred while preparing for the fight. The athlete published a video of the sparring session during which he was allegedly injured on social networks.
At 27, Umar Nurmagomedov has won all of his 4 UFC fights. In his last appearance, he won by KO in the 1st round against Raoni Barcelos. Although he has yet to face a ranked opponent, he is considered by many to be the best prospect in the bantamweight division.
The man the Russian was scheduled to face on August 5, Cory Sandhagen, remains on two straight wins over Song Yadong and Marlon Vera. If he manages to win in his next fight, “The Sandman” could land a fight for the -61kg title.
