Ciryl Gane has graciously declined Khabib Nurmagomedov’s proposal to train in Dagestan with the aim of enhancing his wrestling skills.
The esteemed UFC veteran, Nurmagomedov, had extended the suggestion to Gane following the French fighter’s grappling difficulties in his title bout against Francis Ngannou last year.
Ciryl Gane lost to Francis Ngannou when he got his heavyweight title shot in January 2022 at UFC 270, then, after his victory over Tai Tuivasa, lost again to Jon Jones via submission at the ‘UFC 285. Of his two losses, ‘Bon Gamin”s wrestling skills were called into question.
As a result, right after UFC 285, Khabib Nurmagomedov offered his services to Ciryl Gane to work on his floor, but Gane doesn’t seem interested and has a reason for that (via Mirror Fighting):
“It’s really nice of him, but I have another job, and that’s being a father. I have two daughters and it’s a big job. People underestimate him. For me, leaving my family for six months is impossible. Some say a year and things like that. If I leave for two or three weeks, my family misses me a lot. Bringing people to the gym, that’s possible, to have these top guys in judo, wrestling and boxing. »
“Four years ago, nobody knew me and it was easy to sleep in the gym. Today is different. I have a lot of demands, so I have to manage that too. Like everyone in this sport, when you’re successful, you have to prepare for life after your career. Just like Conor McGregor and Khabib did, preparing for life after the fight. It makes sense, because you can’t fight for 30 years. I was already in a hurry when I started MMA. We chained the fights, which is why my career took place so quickly. »
Ciryl Gane is currently preparing his fight against Serghei Spivac at UFC Paris in September, a very important fight for him, because if he wins, he will be able to get back into the race for the heavyweight title.
