No fighter has ever managed to defeat Nurmagomedov in his undefeated career. However, Kevin Lee would have had the solution.
Kevin Lee has finally revealed what he believes were the holes in Khabib Nurmagomedov’s game, after previously claiming he always knew how to defeat him.
Kevin Lee has finally revealed the “flaws” he saw in Khabib Nurmagomedov’s play when both fighters were at the top of the UFC lightweight division.
The 30-year-old fighter is set to make his return to the UFC after nearly two years away when he meets Rinat Fakrehtdinov at this weekend’s UFC Fight Night event on the same card as Benoit Saint- Denis who will face Ismael Bonfim.
Khabib Nurmagomedov would have “flaws”
Kevin Lee left the UFC after two straight losses to Charles Oliveira and Daniel Rodriguez. In his only fight since leaving the UFC, he won a unanimous decision over fellow UFC veteran Diego Sanchez in the main event of Eagle FC 46. Although he pulled away of MMA, Eagle FC was one of the main projects Nurmagomedov took part in after his retirement from competition in 2020. The former lightweight champion never shared the octagon with Lee during their career in the UFC, but the “Motown Phenom” always said he felt capable of handing Nurmagomedov the first loss of his career.
Lee didn’t want to spend too much time discussing Nurmagomedov now that he’s retired, but in a recent interview with TSN’s Aaron Bronsteter, the 30-year-old finally agreed to reveal the areas he thought to be able to exploit against the undefeated fighter.
“I thought his body was open, I thought he was standing very straight. You can beat him easily when you know that,” Lee said. “I think that style of pressing forward and then grabbing high doesn’t lend itself well to body shots and would eventually have opened up to a kick to the head or other types of kicks. kicks… It’s interesting, but it’s kind of pointless. He left and it didn’t happen, so there’s no point in focusing on the past.”
